We had an absolute blast at the 7th Annual HCA BBQ Cook Off this past Saturday! As soon as we stepped onto Harvest Christian Academy’s grounds, we were hit with the mouthwatering aroma of BBQ. With over 30 cooking teams competing for the prestigious Grand Champion title, it was clear we were in for a tasty day.

Thrive Markets kept the vendor section buzzing with a mix of delicious snacks and unique finds you won’t see anywhere else. And to our surprise, this cook-off also featured a car show! It was a scorching hot day (hello, Texas “fall” weather!), but that didn’t stop folks from coming out and enjoying all that the event had to offer.

The first thing we did when we arrived? Grabbed an ice-cold lemonade from The Chill Stand to cool off. It was pure, refreshing perfection. Then we headed over to Prissy’s Cookies, where we were greeted with a smile and a sample of their homemade banana nut bread. One bite and we were hooked! If you’re ever at one of their booths, do yourself a favor and try the banana nut bread and their carrot cake. Your taste buds will thank you.

We also couldn’t resist stopping by JC Vintage Signs. They have the perfect decor for any patio setup and even some of the most unique handmade musical boxes we’ve ever seen. Definitely worth a visit! Over at Luna Artistree Laserworks, we were blown away by their laser-engraved crosses and coasters shaped like football stadiums—talk about a creative gift idea.

Before leaving the vendor section, we made a mandatory pit stop at Gordee’s Munchies for their famous “espiropapas.” Let’s just say they’ve perfected the art of snacks—we were not disappointed!

Then it was time for the main event—the BBQ awards ceremony in the auditorium. It was awesome to hear the winners announced and feel the excitement in the air. A huge congratulations to Gonzales Family Barbecue for taking home the Grand Champion Award, and to Lonely Bones BBQ for snagging the Reserve Grand Champion title!

Here’s a shout-out to all the winners:

And let’s not forget the car show! Congrats to the Show & Shine People’s Choice Awards winners in the Modern and Classic/Antique categories.

All in all, it was a day filled with good food, cool vendors, and a great community vibe. If you missed it this year, don’t worry—there’s always next year! Until then, we’ll be dreaming about BBQ and banana nut bread. 🍖🔥
